Leica TS12 P 5″ R400 Robotic Total Station
The Leica TS12 P 5″ R400 Robotic Total Station represents a high-performance, mid-range robotic surveying instrument engineered for professional surveyors, contractors and machine-control applications. With a 5″ (≈1.5 mgon) angular accuracy, the “P” (Performance) version of the TS12 series comes equipped with the long-range R400 reflectorless EDM option, integrated drive motors, remote/robotic control capability, and the industry-leading Leica performance suite including PowerSearch prism acquisition, PinPoint EDM, Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) and multiple connectivity options.
Why Choose the TS12 P 5″ R400
- Precision & accuracy – The 5″ angular measurement ensures the TS12 P delivers the accuracy demanded for reliable stake-out, control surveys or machine-control guidance.
- Robotic productivity – With full automation (motorised drives, remote radio/BT control, single-operator workflow) the TS12 P dramatically increases productivity on site compared to manual total stations.
- Reflectorless versatility with R400 – The “R400” option enables reflectorless measurement up to 400 m (in non-prism mode) while retaining full prism-range capability, giving greater flexibility in challenging site conditions.
- Reliable sensor suite – The TS12 series incorporates Leica’s PinPoint EDM technology, unique PowerSearch target-recognition camera, and robust electronic compensator, ensuring dependable performance even in demanding field environments.
- Field-ready build – Designed for site environments, the instrument supports operations in wide temperature ranges (-20 °C to +50 °C), is sealed to - IP54 and uses a stable laser plummet, making it suitable for harsh or mobile job-site conditions.
Key Features & Specifications
Angular Measurement
- Angular accuracy: 5″ (1.5 mgon) for horizontal and vertical axes in the TS12 P variant.
- Display resolution: 0.1″ (0.1 mgon) for fine reading of angle values.
- Angle measurement method: absolute, continuous diametrical circle read by linear CCD array.
- Electronic compensator: dual/quad-axis compensation with setting accuracy approx. 1.0″ (0.3 mgon) for the “P” model.
Distance Measurement & Reflectorless Capability
- Prism-based measurement (Round prism GPR1): up to ~3,500 m under ideal conditions (TS12 series)
- Reflectorless measurement (PinPoint R400 mode): Up to 400 m to any surface with 2 mm + 2 ppm accuracy (typical) in non-prism mode.
- Reflectorless measurement provides freedom from prism placement in certain workflows (for example facades, stockpiles, inaccessible points).
Robotic / Automation
- Motorised horizontal and vertical drives enable automatic alignment to prism, slewing, search/lock/measure workflows.
- PowerSearch sensor: enables rapid prism detection and tracking — “Search-Lock-Measure” workflow.
- Automatic Target Recognition (ATR) – tracks reflectors under movement, enabling one-operator operation and reducing manpower overheads.
- Reflectorless R400 mode further adds flexibility for machine control or remote stake-out without constant prism repositioning.
Connectivity, Data & Field Workflow
- Fully integrated communications: Bluetooth, radio handles, data storage (SD/CF), compatible with Leica field controllers (CS15, CS10) and SmartWorx Viva software.
- Ergonomic field controller support: The CS15 (or CS10) offers a colour screen, touch interface, radio connectivity with the TS12.
- On-board software simplifies workflows: Setup, stake-out, topographic, layout – all in one instrument.
Environment & Physical Characteristics
- Operating temperature range: -20 °C to +50 °C; storage -40 °C to +70 °C.
- Dust & water protection: IP54 rating.
- Weight: approx. 4.8-5.5 kg including battery & tribrach (TS12 family).
Applications & Benefits
Applications
- Construction layout and stake-out: The TS12 P 5″ R400 is ideal for building layout, excavation control, slab staking and similar tasks requiring high accuracy, mobility and speed.
- Machine control systems: In scenarios where robotic total stations support machine guidance (graders, dozers, pavers), the robotic drives, ATR and reflectorless capability allow efficient one-operator workflows.
- Survey control & monitoring: With its accuracy and advanced features, it is suited for establishing survey control networks, as-built verification or moderate monitoring tasks.
- Topographic and site surveys: The reflectorless R400 mode enables reaching hard-to-access surfaces (bleachers, towers, stockpiles) without requiring prism placement.
- Layout for infrastructure: Road/rail works, utility corridor layouts, civil infrastructure jobs where robotic automation increases efficiency.
Benefits
- Increased Efficiency: With PowerSearch, ATR and motorised drives, the TS12 P reduces setup and measurement time, enabling faster turnaround on site.
- Reduced Crew Size: The one-person robotic workflow lowers manpower needs, which means cost savings in labour.
- Versatility: The combination of prism and reflectorless mode gives flexibility across job-types, reducing the need for multiple instruments.
- Field-robust: Built to handle job-site conditions, temperature extremes, dust & water—so less downtime and lower risk of field issues.
